Pompeii – Herculaneum – Oplonti

This tour will take you on a visit to the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and to the villa of Poppea in Oplonti.

Pompeii

Pompeii offers the vision of a Roman city frozen in time due to the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. You will see Pompeii before and after the tragic eruption of 2000 years ago through the artefacts found during excavations and the remains of houses, shops, bathrooms and brothels. You’ll imagine the moment when their world has disappeared.

Pompei provides a complete and clear picture of society and daily life of the Romans.

Herculaneum

Herculaneum was a holiday resort for the rich Romans of the region, with its beautiful views and easy access to the sea. It disappeared under a pyroclastic flow of volcanic mud and was buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash and stone, just like the nearby Pompeii. In Herculaneum there are the remains of spacious houses, sanctuaries and baths. Outside the walls there are ancient villas, such as the magnificent Villa dei Papiri.

Oplontis

Oplonti was a suburban area of nearby Pompeii, corresponding to the current Torre Annunziata. The most important archaeological find is the so-called Villa of Poppea, also called Villa Oplonti. It is a large structure located in an ancient Roman city.

You will see well-preserved frescoes and small alcoves with incredible garden. The story tells that this villa was owned by Nero but used by his second wife, the famous Poppea Sabina, as his main residence before his transfer to Rome.
